Students plunge into the process of exploring characters through both the modern approach of portraying and the classical approach of understanding. Students are mentored by NVA Ensemble Member Justin Lang, a professional actor and teacher who created and runs NVA’s award-winning THE SHAKESPEARE NETWORK education and outreach program. Justin aims to excite, educate, enrich and equip students with professional skills and tools used at the highest level of performing. Students start with physical and vocal warm ups, and then move quickly into textual analysis and table work for comprehension of Elizabethan literature and devices. The main focus of the Intensive is centered around bringing to life the richness of the characters through various exercises and activities that strengthen the imagination and sharpen the acting tool. The Intensive finishes with a final performance, which is open to family, friends and the public. This Intensive is great for students at all levels looking to get a well rounded, professional theatre experience.

“The Junior Ensemble has given me opportunities of a lifetime to grow in so many ways: as an actor, as an artist and as a person. I have been given a new-found appreciation and love for Shakespeare, for the arts. More importantly, I have been given a place where I can only continue to grow.”
